Beating the Heat on Third Avenue
We took on a job for a new mixed-use infill project right off Third Avenue last July. The site was incredibly tight, sandwiched between two existing pre-war buildings, and the heat was brutal—you could see the heat waves radiating off the asphalt. The project manager was worried because their previous vendor kept missing cleanings during the morning rush, leaving the crew with overflowing units in ninety-degree weather. The smell was already generating complaints from the neighbors before we even dropped our first unit.
I drove the route myself to figure out the best timing, realizing that getting in before 6 AM was the only way to beat the delivery trucks blocking the narrow side streets. We switched to a dawn service schedule and deployed our high-capacity standard units with extra ventilation. Our crew hit the site every morning while the city was still waking up, ensuring the tanks were pumped and sanitized before the construction team even poured their first coffee.
Marco’s team showed up before sunrise every single day, and I never heard one complaint about the facilities all summer.
